Here I will be posting about all things green and beautiful and the initiative that the U.K. (and Europe) are taking in the environmental race. Coming from what I think it such a forward thinking area on this front, it will be interesting to compare what I find here. This I think is possibly the single most important task of globalization; to push forward environmental sustainability and sustainable growth for the betterment (and maintanence) of humanity in its entirety, all over the world. Comparisons between here and there are not intended to be for competitions sake but rather for the sake of beneficial globalization.
We probably have to remember that the U.K. is in alot of trouble when it comes to obtaining energy. They need to save every bit they can and perhaps being constantly in fear of an immensely troublesome shortage is what fuels the U.K.’s green initiatives.
Wind Farms
Wind farms freckle the Scottish landscape. This type of energy is magnificent in that supplies are everlastingly replenishable. Perhaps we should take note of this when complaining about a slight obstruction of view that they might afford Vancouverites. I think we need to get our priorities straight and embrace this growing trend.
Coffee Cups
Perhaps a cultural ideal stolen from Parisians, people like to sit down and drink their coffee here. Unlike our grab-and-go standard at home, every coffee shop has loads of seating for customers, and the baristas do not ask you regularly whether or not you’d like it to go. Instead, unless you tell them you’re leaving with it, they just assume that you have made time to sit and drink. Environmentally, this cultural standard looks very good. Fewer to-go cups, less waste. Socially, we should maybe think about adopting the idea of legitimately taking a break too.
